Goddess of Food and Drink

People gather at the bar in one of my favorite restaurants, “Crazy
Waters” in Milwaukee. There is a plaster bust on the wall behind the
bar. I have no idea what it represents or who it might be, but I dubbed
it the Goddess of Food and Drink. The true Goddess of Food is the owner
and chef, Peggy Magister.

Rainy Night Blues

A summer thunderstorm drenches the city and isolates the
pedestrians under awnings and umbrellas to escape the downpour. Car tires swish
through puddles on the wet pavement as the rain beats a steady tattoo on the
city streets. The distant rumble of thunder joins the rumble of traffic and
bright downtown lights challenge the sporadic flashes of lightning illuminating
the dark sky above.

A Rainy Night in Milwaukee

A sudden Spring downpour drenches the city streets as people hurry to
find a dry place to escape the cold rain. Traffic slows to a crawl as
the driving rain drums on the car roofs and reduces visibility. Gutters
become rivers and thunder grumbles and then booms like distant canon
fire. It’s a wet April night in Milwaukee!

Oriental Theater Milwaukee

The Oriental Theatre is located in the East Side neighborhood of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It was built and opened in 1927 as a movie palace, and features two minaret towers. It is officially known as the Oriental Landmark Theatre.
The theater is the world record holder for continual showings of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. It has played as a Saturday midnight movie since January 1978.

Rainy Days and Mondays

I always liked the Karen Carpenter song with the same title. The only difference is rainy days and mondays never get me down. I love rainy days ...the wetter the better. Rain storms have always made me feel invigorated and very creative. Painting on a stormy day is one of my favorite things. Curling up with a good book as the rain pounds on the roof is also right up there with my favorites.
This scene could be any big city in the rain such as New York, Chicago, or Milwaukee.

Old Water Tower Milwaukee

Milwaukee's old North Point Water Tower is this years choice for my annual holiday painting. I can remember riding past the tower as a youngster. I always thought it looked like a storybook castle...I still do. In the 60's it was often used for war protests and other rallies. The eastside location and proximity to the University of Wisconsin contributed to the popularity of the site for gatherings. This historic Milwaukee landmark was built in 1874.
