Original Painting - Acrylic on canvas 30x20
This painting is a re-creation of Chicago
during the Prohibition era. It is a completely imaginary scene but I based it
somewhat on my own research of vintage photos from the time period with plenty
of artistic license. As an impressionistic work, I was primarily interested in
capturing the hustle and bustle of a teeming metropolis from a colorful time in
the past. I enjoyed painting the antique automobiles and streetcar. I purposely
chose a palette of warm brown tones for a vintage look. I also used some
metallic paint sparingly, in both copper and gold, for the very first time. I
liked the effect on this piece and I will use it again where it might enhance a
painting.
